About Wholesale Watches
Can you really buy watches at wholesale prices over the internet? We say, be wary.
There are certainly a lot of people who claim to be selling wholesale watches on the web. These also go under the name of liquidation watches, overstock watches, clearance and surplus watches. Most of the legitimate wholesale watch suppliers require you to buy in volume. This makes sense, of course, as they are not set up to pay for shipping, and shipping and individual attention are one of the things you pay for when you are buying watches at retail price rates.
There are also vendors on the other side of the world who are selling watches for cheap. At Luxury Watches 101, we’ve never bothered to try these out, but our sense is that you should beware of fakes or replicas. Anyone can make a replica and slap a Rolex brand name on it; copyright laws and other brand protection laws are notoriously more lax in many countries outside of North America. We have yet to find someone legitimately selling watches at wholesale prices to the consumer.
If you are interested in getting into the watch business and you are looking for wholesale watch suppliers, you should also be wary of replicas. Some companies advertising on the internet (see links nearby, for example) offer no guarantee that watches they are selling are the real brand names that are on the watch. From here, those smell like fake watches.
Legitimate wholesalers, with an example
The best way to be sure that the wholesale watches you are purchasing are legitimate is to closely check the wording of their guarantees. For example, the wording of the website and other materials from a UK company, Amber Trading, indicates that this is a wholesaler concerned with legitimacy and legality. Amber also wholesales on eBay; they sell both wholesale and clearance watches. Diversification in wholesale (when they include discontinued catalogues and other similar items) is one other indication of legitimacy.
Some key wording from Amber’s site is the use of the phrase “branded quality watches.” They also claim that their watches undergo “stringent rechecking and inspection.” When you look at the graphics of their watches, they are quality graphics that clearly show the name brand and other details of the watches. And they offer a return guarantee. All of this indicates that they are selling legitimate wholesale watches.
