Panerai is a blend of Italian style and Swiss craftsmanship. Giovanni Panerai founded the family business in 1860, opening the first watchmaker's shop in Florence. He committed himself to learning all the latest innovations while applying his own unique designs.
Panerai's early work resulted in many patents in the timekeeping and optics field. Since the early 1930's, Panerai has been associated with the Royal Italian Navy; supplying soldiers with exacting pocket watches and precision aiming sights for torpedoes. In 1993, the company began to offer its timepieces to the world in limited editions of the Luminor watch.
