William Baume and Paul Mercier got their start in 1912 in the small French Village of Les Bois, in the Swiss Alps. Like other watch making teams this was a merging of artistry with rigor and precision. Baume et Mercier's Hampton series is well known for its elegance and it is yet modern and classical.
By 1921, the Baume et Mercier watch company's legend was growing with the awarding of the coveted Poinçon de Genéve, the watchmaker's highest honor, given by the Republic of Geneva. Baume et Mercier's development of the planetary rotor, which oscillates with the movements of the wrist to automatically wind the watch and activate the mainspring, lead to the production of the world's flattest automatic watch.
