Watch Repair
First of all, be sure that you maintain your watch as well as you can. If your watch stops, it can be for any number of reasons, not all of them serious. Here are some basic troubleshooting tips for watch repair.
If the watch has stopped:
- Be sure that the watch stem is pushed in.
- Make sure that all dials and dial markers are properly fastened. If not, they may be blocking the hands from properly moving.
- In some cases, the crystal may be chipped and blocking the hands.
- The watch may be rusty. This is quite likely fatal, were sorry to say.
- With electronic watches, some parts are replaceable.
If your manual or automatic watch is slowing down:
- It may need to be wound properly.
- It may need to be cleaned.
If your quartz watch is slowing down:
- You may need to replace the battery.
- The watch may need cleaning.
If your watch is not working, there are a few basic strategies you can use:
- Fix it yourself if the problem is simple, such as battery replacement.
- Take it to a watch repair person.
- Dont bother fixing it and never use it again. If the watch is just too expensive to fix, you can either throw it out or keep it in a drawer somewhere. You would do this if the watch is irreparable but still has sentimental value.
