Dive Watches
In the world of wrist watches, and even within the more exclusive world of luxury watches, dive watches remain a category all their own. There are a few reasons why dive watches are appreciated, and not just because they can be critical for the avid scuba diver. The other big reason dive watches are so heavily sought after is this: they are extremely cool.
Divers know the value of a good dive watch:
- They use it to time their oxygen and to time their ascent.
- It may be important to know what time it is when they are at the ocean floor.
- Water resistance.
For divers, many of the recent advances in dive watches have only been redundant with advances in other equipment operations. The value of the diving watch might be that it is only used to double check what you already know, as displayed on your dive console.
There are two classes of dive watches:
- Classic luxury brands with dive watch features, such as a rotating bezel. These are made by Rolex, Tag Heuer and others and learn toward style over functionality.
- Sophisticated dive watches (maybe “dive computers” is a better phrase) by names like Luminox, Sunnto and others. Out of the water, these are fun toys that you can show off – with water temperature, depth readings and various alarms.
What to buy and why
Some of the finest dive watches that you might look for – and why you might look for them:- The Citizen Men's Promaster Aqualand Duplex watch features two digital displays as well as an analog display. The case is solid titanium, water resistant to 660 feet. Its actual dive features are many, including the multifarious display, the ability to record dive details and more. The reason for its popularity is it combines function with affordability: it retails for about $300 US. Click on the links nearby to learn more.
- Seiko also makes very popular dive watches that are also affordable.
- The Tag Heuer Aquaracer 2000 is also an excellent watch. It’s more expensive (though not as expensive as some watches, of course). It combines a strong design that you’ll want to show off, matching Tag Heuer quality with nifty dive utilities.
- The Luminox Navy Seal Chronograph will run you about $650. It definitely has prestige.
- The Oris TT1 comes in at over a grand, but it is premiere piece of time keeping technology.
