Guys’ Watches: Big Concerns

A watch is the perfect gift when it comes to shopping for your guy friend.

We’re going to generalize, and we don’t want to offend anyone by sounding sexist, but in general women have some advantages in this area. The advantages women have are that they:

Know how to accessorize smartly.

A watch is the singular piece of jewelry that most guys will wear – other than a wedding ring (but that’s another thing altogether). It’s an area where you will find it easier to pull rank, because – let’s face it – a lot of guys don’t really care about what looks right. For example, it’s easy to exercise fashion authority over a guy who thinks his Suunto watch is just fine for wearing to a business meeting.

Still, there are some major concerns that you might want to keep in mind. They are:

Size. If the guy is a big guy, it may be a surprise to him that there are some very large watches out there. Some guys will like a big watch, but in general they will want to stay conservative. This will depend on the personality of your guy.
Color. In our humble opinion, most guys will not be too impressed with the many bold-colored watches that are out there. In general, guys will still go for the muted colors, and the deep blues are always a favorite.
Price. Don’t be afraid to go conservative. Buy a watch that is on sale, if you have the choice. Guys will appreciate your frugality. Again, this is in general. Be wary that the price might be a message, so spend the right amount for your guy and your relationship.
